CAMPYLOBACTER AS A MAJOR FOODBORNE PATHOGEN: A REVIEW OF ITS CHARACTERISTICS, PATHOGENESIS, ANTIMICROBIAL RESISTANCE AND CONTROL

چکیده
Campylobacter, mainly Campylobacter jejuni is viewed as one of the most well-known reasons foodborne bacterial diarrheal sickness in people around globe. The genus contains 39 species (spp.) and 16 sub spp. microaerophilic, Gram negative, spiral-shaped rod with characteristic cork screw motility. It colonizing digestive system numerous wild household animals birds, particularly chickens. Intestinal colonization brings about transporter/carrier healthy animals. Consequently, utilization contaminated meat, especially chicken meat primary source campylobacteriosis humans chickens are responsible for an expected 80% human campylobacter infection. Interestingly, contrast recent published reviews that cover specific aspects campylobacter/campylobacteriosis, this review targets taxonomy, biological characteristics, identification habitat Moreover, it discusses pathogenesis, resistance to antimicrobial agents public health significance Finally, focuses on phytochemicals intervention strategies used reduce spp.in poultry production.

Campylobacter species are a leading cause of bacterial-derived foodborne illnesses worldwide. The emergence of this bacterial group as a significant causative agent of human disease and their propensity to carry antibiotic resistance elements that allows them to resist antibacterial therapy make them a serious public health threat. Campylobacter jejuni and Campylobacter coli are considered to b...
متن کاملEditorial: About the Foodborne Pathogen Campylobacter
The name “Campylobacter” comes from ancient Greek meaning “curved rod” which describes the shape of this microorganism. Campylobacter was firstly isolated as a Vibrio species from epizootic ovine abortion in 1906 by McFadyean and Stockman (1913), and renamed in 1973 as the neotype strain Campylobacter after showing significant biological differences with Vibrio species (Véron and Chatelain, 197...

Campylobacter jejuni is the most commonly reported bacterial cause of foodborne infection in the United States. Adding to the human and economic costs are chronic sequelae associated with C. jejuni infection--Guillian-Barré syndrome and reactive arthritis. In addition, an increasing proportion of human infections caused by C. jejuni are resistant to antimicrobial therapy. Mishandling of raw pou...

Campylobacter jejuni is one of the leading bacterial causes of human gastroenteritis. Due to the increasing rates of human campylobacteriosis, C. jejuni is considered as a serious public health concern worldwide. C. jejuni is a microaerophilic, fastidious bacterium. C. jejuni must overcome a wide range of stress conditions during foodborne transmission to humans, such as food preservation and p...
